Obamamania

(This was originally posted on facebook on January 22, 2009)

With all that is going on in the country I figured it was about time to put my two cents in. I have gotten myself in hot water expressing my political views in the past, but by golly I want to know what is wrong with this country.

As excited as I am that we have a "black" president I can't help but feel that racism in the U.S. is far from over. In my opinion absence of racism would be having race completely left out of the picture. I feel that America has sacrificed making an intelligent decision for a quest to establish civil rights. Race should not matter at all when it comes to electing a president. It should not be an issue!

The fact that racism is far from gone is proven in the very inauguration ceremony. Glenn Beck brings up the point that in the benediction of the event racism was brought out stronger than ever. I would like to quote directly from this prayer, "We ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, and when white will embrace what is right." Let's analyze this line by line.

"Black will not be asked to give back."- I'm not exactly sure what this is supposed to mean, but it doesn't sound good. It seems to suggest that black people are somehow required to give back what should be theirs. I have a hard time with this considering the historical event that was supposed to have taken place electing the first black president.

"When Brown can stick around."- This comment is obvious. Illegal immigration is another subject for another day, but Reverend Lowery seems to suggest here that illegal immigrants have just as much right to be here as you or I.

"When yellow will be mellow"- I know that if I called an Asian person yellow on national T.V. I would have been beaten, bound, gagged, and thrown in a river. Yet no one seems to care that it was said. It shows a huge double standard in our country. Minorities can talk bad about minorities and majorities, but majorities have to keep our politically incorrect mouths shut. Can you imagine what would happen if I tried to start WET-White Entertainment Television? But African-Americans can have their own television station? Where is the end of racism in that?

"When the red man can get ahead," Once again if I referred to a Native American as "red", there would be hell to pay.

"When white will embrace what is right." This to me is the killer. Because I am white I have not embraced what is right. This sentence is pure racism at it's finest. It generalizes that white people somehow are ethically, morally, and politically wrong. Why? Because they are white. This prayer was read at the inauguration of a president! Does that not bug anyone? So much for the election of a black president ending racism. I'm afraid we have just seen the start.I have sad news for all of you out there who love me. I'm going to hell. I am going to be joining the ranks of the damned. Would you like to know why? I voted against the "messiah". When I see people fainting in Obama's presence, reaching out for his hand, kissing the ground he walks on, and sacrificing animals in celebration that can only mean one thing Obama is far more than our first black president. The man had not spent one day in the oval office before he was hailed as the greatest president of the United States of America. He had not done one wretched thing. To go back even farther no one could even give me a great accomplishment he made in the Senate. When America boo's President Bush at the inauguration and then gives credit to man who has done nothing I lose my respect for the presidency. I'm not saying that we shouldn't give Obama a chance, but to assume he is god on Earth is irresponsible. America it is time to save yourself. Obama will not save the country economically by deficit spending. What will save the country is living within our means. Obama will not save the economy by creating jobs. Americans will save the country by creating savings accounts instead of debt. Obama will not save the country from anything until we as Americans decide to save our own lives.

I agree that it is historical that we elected the first black president, but did we elect him because he was the best man for the job? Or because he is black? I hope and pray that people will slow down, take a look at things, and seriously ponder what direction our country is going in before it is too late. We cannot loose our watchfulness amidst pomp celebration and rock star treatment.
